In discussing the first arrival of state structures and monumental building in Israel some time ago, I came down on the late chronology Finkelstein side of the debate, dating their first appearance with the Omrides. Had I known Ben-Ami & Wazana's 2013 article then I would have sided with Dever and Yadin, as I do now.

How can Porzig assume there never was an ark of the covenant holding the tablets of law, when I have seen photographs of the chapel it is now housed and sheltered in with my own eyes? What a boring solution to a riddle that has kept people captivated for centuries.
