Contrary to first expectations the fossils found in the Dinaledi Chamber have turned out to be quite young. Any conclusions about the antiquity of the common features identified and on behavioral evolution as those drawn by Holloway et al. critically depend on the as yet unindentified age of the split between the lineages.

As far as I can tell Balabanova et al.'s extrordinary result of 1992 has never been successfully repeated since. All instances where it is cited as proof for far reaching conclusions, such as Görlitz, should therefore be treated with utmost caution.

To my knowledge Kozowyk et al. is the first successful extraction of birch tar using Middle Paleolithic means. This finally solves a long-standing conundrum.
